Standards & Conformity

This committee follows EU policies relating to standards, technical regulations and conformity assessment. These issues have recently been closely linked with environment policies as seen in the Commission’s Green Paper on Integrated Product Policy. Concrete examples are the draft directive on environmental aspects of electrical and electronic equipment (so-called draft EEE directive) and the draft directive on energy efficiency requirement for end-use equipment, which would introduce technical regulations requiring products to be environmentally friendly or energy efficient. The committee follows the developments of these issues in cooperation with JBCE Environment Committee.

Trade Policy

Trade Policy Committee has been dealing with a wide scope of trade-related issues ranging from particular anti-dumping, tariff classification cases, to a larger scale of trade issues relating to IPR and Environmental aspects are also part of its activity.

Apart from carefully watching the development of trade policy around the world, Trade Policy Committee will also focus on potentiality for the free flow of goods and service, and should opportunities to make trade freer arise, it proactively communicates with policy makers so that opportunities are realized. EU-Japan Economic Integration Agreement and Trade Security Policy are examples of these issues.
