JBCE attended the 18th EU-Japan Business Roundtable (BRT) on 20th April in Tokyo. JBCE President Hidehito Murato spoke during the joint session with both senior officials from the European Commission and high-level representatives from Japanese Ministries. He stressed 3 key topics: JBCE’s support for the earliest possible conclusion of the EU-Japan EPA/FTA negotiations in 2016; the need for future-oriented regulatory cooperation; and the importance of the free flow of data between EU and Japan.
As part of the BRT, JBCE released and distributed its 2016 Report. This report encapsulates the recommendations made by JBCE throughout the sessions, including the promotion of a dialogue to encourage the common regulatory environment that would reduce business costs and spur innovation, the establishment of a mechanism providing for the free flow of personal data between the EU and Japan, and the successful conclusion of the EPA/FTA within 2016.
