On 5 November, the International Trade (INTA) Committee of the European Parliament gave the greenlight to the EU-Japan Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA).
Toru Morita, the President of Japan Business Council in Europe (JBCE) said: “JBCE welcomes today’s positive vote in the European Parliament’s International Trade Committee, which paves the way to the final stage of the ratification process. JBCE will continue to engage with key stakeholders to contribute to the successful conclusion of this landmark Agreement. I personally encourage the Members of the European Parliament to successfully ratify the EPA during the December Plenary vote so to allow both citizens and industry to reap the well-known benefits that this Agreement will deliver”.
Since the beginning of negotiations of the EPA, JBCE has contributed to the discussion by providing inputs and exchanging views with both EU and Japanese authorities.
The EPA is not a goal in itself, but the start point of a deep and comprehensive cooperation between the EU and Japan.
JBCE is ready to contribute to raising awareness of this historic agreement, and to support its appropriate implementation in the years to come.
