JBCE Co-Signs Joint Statement on the Forced Labour Product Ban

On 29 February 2024, JBCE, together with seven other business associations, published a joint statement on the Forced Labour Product Ban.

In the statement, the signatories reject forced labour in European supply chains, supporting effective legislation aligned with international frameworks such as the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights. They advocate for a proportionate and risk-based approach allowing companies to prioritise their due diligence efforts and respect the principle of responsible disengagement.

The joint statement calls for:

  • Union interest and governance: increasing the role of the European Commission.
  • No reversal of the burden of proof.
  • Focus on a workable and effective mechanism instead of a litigation-orientated framework.
  • Policy coherence.
