JBCE co-signed the Joint Statement of the business associations on the Forced Labour Product Ban

29/02/2024

On 29 February 2024, JBCE, together with other associations, published a joint statement on the Forced Labour Product Ban.

In this joint statement, we reject forced labor in European supply chains, supporting effective legislation aligned with international frameworks such as the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights. We advocate for a proportionate and risk-based approach allowing companies to prioritise their due diligence efforts and respect the principle of responsible disengagement.

The joint statement calls for:

1) Union interest and governance: increasing the role of the European Commission

2) No reversal of the burden of proof

3) Focus on a workable and effective mechanism instead of a litigation-oriented framework

4) Policy coherence
