Corporate Sustainability JBCE co-signs a Joint Statement together with other industry associations: “A Business Call to EU Policymakers for Legal Certainty under the Omnibus I Package”
06/11/2025
On 6 November 2025, the Japan Business Council in Europe (JBCE) joined European and international business associations in co-signing a joint statement titled “A Business Call to EU Policymakers for Legal Certainty”, addressing the ongoing legislative process of the Omnibus I package related to the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) and the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD).
The statement underlines the importance of legal certainty and simplification in the EU’s sustainability framework and calls on EU policymakers to swiftly conclude the legislative procedure.
The signatories emphasise the following key points:
- Endorsement of a risk-based approach, allowing companies to focus on the most severe and likely risks while ensuring that enforcement does not penalise firms acting responsibly in line with prioritisation principles.
- Call for timely finalisation of accompanying guidelines, enabling effective implementation and reducing uncertainty for companies committed to responsible business conduct.
JBCE and its partners welcome the Council’s commitment to maintaining high standards, policy coherence, and the integrity of the Single Market, while ensuring a practical, predictable, and impact-driven sustainability framework for all businesses operating in the EU.
