JBCE Recommendations to Further Develop the EU-Japan Digital Partnership
On 5 May 2026, in the context of the EU-Japan Tech Business Roundtable, JBCE published a list of recommendations to further develop the EU-Japan Digital Partnership.
This contribution builds on the outcomes of the 2025 EU-Japan Summit, which reaffirmed the strategic importance of deepening digital and economic cooperation and called for more concrete and scalable implementation under the Digital Partnership.
JBCE calls for:
- Realising the full potential of the Partnership by ensuring that it transitions from a dialogue-oriented phase to one focused on concrete, outcome-driven implementation.
- Moving beyond bilateral frameworks to establish the Trusted Digital Commons (TDC) as its organising principle. The TDC would represent the digital implementation of JBCE's ‘Made with Common Values' principle.
- Scaling markets and innovation through the principle of 'Made with Common Values' to compete commercially without relying on protectionist measures that impose high costs.
