JBCE Additional Comments to the Public Consultation on Standardisation Regulation

On 25 July 2024, JBCE submitted additional comments on the evaluation of the Standardisation Regulation after having responded to the European Commission's questionnaire on this evaluation.

JBCE is of opinion that, overall, the current Regulation provides a clear and stable legal framework for the development of standards in line with the European standardisation principles of openness,
inclusiveness, transparency, and consensus. We consider that the provisions of Regulation 1025 fulfil the Regulation’s objectives and remain future-proof to deliver standards to support the EU strategy for a green, digital, and resilient single market. JBCE members believe that in this context, the principles and the content of the Regulation do not require any change.

As an alternative to revising the existing legal foundation of the European Standardisation System (ESS) as outlined in the Regulation, JBCE would like to suggest focusing efforts on resolving issues related to its current implementation. These include:

  • The timely citation of Harmonised Standards in support of EU policies and legislation.
  • Better alignment with international standards.
  • The importance of inclusiveness and international collaboration.
