26/05/2020
On 26 May 2020, Japan and the EU held a Leaders’ meeting, where H.E. Mr. Shinzo Abe, Prime Minister of Japan, H.E. Mr. Charles Michel, President of the European Council, and H.E. Dr. Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission attended via VTC. The leaders recognised that global solidarity and cooperation are required more than ever to defeat the virus and to ensure economic recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic. And they stressed that green transition and digital transformation will be a part of the recovery strategy, and also underlined the importance of keeping the trading system open so as not to create unnecessary barriers to trade or disruption to global supply chains.
JBCE welcomed their strong commitment to continue tackling global challenges together in the international arena.
JBCE pledges its support to the EU and Japan as they take this work forward, and looks forward to the EU-Japan Summit in the near future.
