JBCE Holds Second Closed-Door Roundtable on Economic Security
On 17 March 2026, as part of our ongoing series of roundtables on economic security, JBCE hosted its second closed-door discussion—this time focusing on the Industrial Accelerator Act (IAA) and the revision of the Public Procurement Directives. Titled “‘European preference’ increasingly shaping EU legislation – focus on the Industrial Accelerator Act and the Public Procurement Directives revision,” the roundtable brought together JBCE member companies, European Commission officials, the Mission of Japan to the EU, Member States’ Permanent Representations, and Bruegel for a frank and constructive exchange under Chatham House rules.
JBCE welcomed the trusted partner approach set out in the IAA, on which we are currently preparing a position paper, as it reflects our ‘Made with Common Values’ approach.
Key takeaways from the discussion
- Greater clarity in the IAA text is essential to provide predictability and legal certainty
- Stronger harmonisation is needed—both with existing and upcoming legislation, and across Member States
- The IAA and the revised Public Procurement Directives have the potential to boost high-quality investment and support the creation of lead markets in Europe, including for Japanese companies
JBCE would like to thank Antoine Mathieu Collin for presenting Bruegel’s work on “Made with Europe”, all participants for their valuable contributions, and Varg Lukas Folkman (European Policy Centre) for expertly moderating the discussion.
